The Crisis Worker provides emotional and administrative support to patients, either as a group or individual, through group process and psychotherapy. All methods of practice shall conform to written hospital policies and procedures and be carried out to the highest achievable level of competence in a manner demonstrating concern and consideration. The Crisis Worker will demonstrate Clara Maass’ philosophy to Total Quality Management by actively applying that philosophy in all dealings with both internal and external customers.
Performs mental health evaluation to assist in determining a patient’s level of care.
Communicates findings with on-call psychiatrist to decide on appropriate disposition of patient within the Network, other agencies or home. Communicates findings and recommendations to the ED staff.
Serve as an advocate for clients by facilitating connection with personal support systems and follow up mental health services
Coordinates commitment process through the designated screening centers.
Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age specific treatment and care.
Once contacted, arrives in the ED within 30 minutes.
Performs a face-to-face mental health assessment to determine the appropriate level of care in consulting with on-call Psychiatrist.
If psychiatric inpatient admission is required, the crisis professional will obtain insurance pre-certification and contact the on-call psychiatrist for final authorization of the admission.
PhD or MA in Mental Health or MSW or RN with psychiatric experience required.
Excellent communication skills.
